6 ways to improve staff adoption
For any new technology or initiative to succeed, you need strong staff adoption.
Here, our nursing team share their tips for how you can more effectively get staff engaged:
1. Have comprehensive training available
Regularly communicate what training sessions are available for staff. Use multiple channels to reach them, such as emails, team huddles, and promotions in staff areas.
Keep reminding staff of ongoing training that’s available beyond go-live.
Designate super-users or champions within each unit to serve as advocates and go-to resources for when staff have questions. Their expertise and enthusiasm can help drive adoption among peers.

2. Secure leadership buy-in
When your leadership team is actively supporting and participating in the process, staff are more likely to see the initiative as a priority.
Encourage leaders to discuss the importance of the new system during meetings and roundings.
3. Give hands-on experience
On-site training sessions provide real-world context, allowing staff to practice using the technology in their actual work environment.
This approach fosters confidence and ensures better retention of skills and processes.
4. Provide annual refreshers
Regular refresher courses help reinforce best practices and keep staff up to date with any new system changes or updates.
Consider integrating these refreshers into annual training events.
5. Onboard new staff
Don’t forget to incorporate system training into your new hire onboarding process.
No matter when someone joins the team, they’ll have the tools and training they need to be comfortable with the technology from day one.
6. Make it fun
Try out friendly competitions to encourage engagement. Track and share usage statistics with staff to highlight progress and get input for where (and how) to improve.
