How would you describe your role at SONIFI Health?
As head of product, I wear many hats, from leading the team responsible for defining product requirements to guiding execution and ensuring that our offerings align with our overarching goals.
It’s a dynamic blend of healthcare and technology, demanding both strategic foresight and the agility to adapt to industry complexities and drive innovation in an ever-changing landscape.
From a leadership perspective, I’m also committed to fostering a culture of continuous improvement within our product team. That means mentoring our team members, promoting best practices, and instilling a customer-centric mindset in everything we do.
By nurturing a collaborative and innovative environment, we’re able to stay ahead of the curve and deliver solutions that truly make a difference in healthcare.
What excites you most about your job?
Leading a team that tackles challenges head-on, with dedication, creativity, and sometimes a bit of tenacity is incredibly rewarding.
Together, we’ve brought to market virtual care solutions, brought interoperability to hospital signage, and developed numerous smart room technologies—all aimed at making the hospital experience better for patients, families, and the dedicated staff who care for them.
My passion for our work runs deep. I’ve walked the same hospital hallways as countless others, supporting loved ones through tough diagnoses and long stays. It’s those moments that remind me why our work matters.
Our technology isn’t just about health tech innovation; it’s about making a tangible difference in people’s lives, offering comfort, empowerment, and peace of mind when it’s needed most.
We’re not just building products, we’re shaping the future of care—one feature, one caregiver, and one patient at a time.
What’s your experience working in healthcare?
My journey in healthcare began at a young age, working at a family-owned pharmacy where I witnessed firsthand the profound impact of personal connections in the community’s healthcare landscape. This experience ignited my passion for improving lives through healthcare.
Throughout my professional career, I’ve had the privilege of working in product and marketing roles within innovative patient-centric companies. Before joining SONIFI Health in 2018, I collaborated with clinicians and end users to help develop cutting-edge products leveraging robotics and neurostimulation technology.
From restoring mobility for individuals with limb loss to alleviating chronic peripheral nerve pain, to creating smart hospital room technologies, every project has been driven by a shared commitment to enhancing users’ quality of life.
Each success story, whether it’s a patient taking their first steps with a prosthetic limb or regaining movement after a neurological injury, or hearing a father was able to successfully perform CPR on his infant after viewing education while in the hospital, underscores the transformative power of technology in healthcare. These moments reaffirm my dedication to innovation through compassion.
How has patient engagement technology been evolving over the years?
Engagement technology has helped to make healthcare more accessible, convenient, personalized, and patient-centered.
Driving forces to this transformation stem from patients expecting more from healthcare, a heightened focus among providers on patient-centered care, and the COVID-19 pandemic, which necessitated the adoption of new technologies to maintain connections during times of physical separation.
Additional factors influencing the future of patient engagement technology include:
- Health records and interoperability
- Telehealth and virtual care
- Mobile apps and wearables
- Personalized health education and coaching
- Patient communities and social support
- AI and predictive analytics
As technology evolves, patients can expect further improvements in the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of healthcare services, ultimately leading to better health outcomes and experiences.
What current challenges in healthcare do you see technology helping solve for?
Technology that’s focused on improving patient engagement and experience can help:
- Enhance communication and boost engagement between patients and providers through secure messaging, portals, and apps
- Support care coordination among clinicians by streamlining the exchange of information, reducing redundant documentation efforts, and improving care transitions
- Empower patients in their care decisions by providing access to educational resources and personalized information
- Improve quality and safety by facilitating patient feedback and seamlessly dispersing that information to the care team when and where it’s needed
- Enhance satisfaction and brand loyalty for patients and staff by creating experiences more conducive to healing
Overall, patient engagement technology can drive better health outcomes, by creating a more patient-centered, efficient, and effective care environment that meets the needs and preferences of patients and their care team.
